The Recreation and Engagement Specialist fills a vital role in the recreational therapy and engagement team at EMA. The specialist is a non-traditional position. They normally have expertise, experience, education and certifications in a highly specialized area of study and programming such as, but not limited to, music, art or dance. Additionally, based on the specific needs of the community and the residents, they could have expertise and credentials in fields such as drama, creative writing, art appreciation, specialists that work in mediums such as clay or pottery or adult education. The possibilities are limitless. Each EMA community determines what areas would best serve its residents. The Recreational and Engagement Specialist brings to residents the enjoyment of a wide range of fields so that they may develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. This position does follow the traditional responsibilities as a member of the Recreational and Engagement Team, which includes the planning, implementing and documenting of designated specialty programs (i.e., music, art, etc.). They ensure that residents are engaged in programs that will support, validate and enhance their quality of life. EMA follows a unique therapeutic recreation process called "Universal Activities" that ensures the meaningful engagement of all residents. The Recreation and Engagement Specialist directly plans, leads and evaluates the programs related to their specialty to aid in this function. Additionally, the Specialist is a vital link in ensuring that all programs related to their profession including those led by other engagement professionals will be person centered and best in quality to meet the needs of the residents.
Minimum Qualificatons, Licensure & Experience:
For Music Therapist: Must fulfill coursework requirements to receive certification (4 year undergraduate degree or alternative) and the required 6 month internship outlined to sit for the MT-BC board examination. Music Therapist-Board Certification (MT-BC) from the Certfication of Music Therapists.
At least 1 year experience working in Music Therapy programs as consultant or employee in long term care setting with some dementia experience preferred.
For Art Specialist: Master's level degree in Fine Arts or other Arts program
(Art Therapy Board Certification and its related coursework may be substituted for Master's degree).
Master's Level degree in Fine Arts or other Arts program with combination of at least 2 years progressive experience working in art in long term care; or Art Therapy-Board Certfication (ATR-BC) from the Art Therapy Credentials Board. At least 1 year experience working in Art programs as consultant or employee in long term care setting with some dementia experience preferred.
For non-traditional specialities: the individual must have education commensurate with the area of speciality for which they are responsible which shall be at the Bachelor's level. Individual much have educaation commensurate with the area of speciality for which they are responsible which shall be at the bachelors level. The individual must have at least 1 year's experience in the area of speciality for which they are responsible and at least one year's experience working in the long term care setting with some dementia experience preferred.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
